Cartoon published on Dec. 18, 1970.   Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, announced it was discontinuing the sport of football in December 1970.   Football had been played for decades with a record of 308 wins, 240 losses and 32 ties.

   On August 29th, 1977, Lou Brock stole his 893rd base, breaking Ty Cobb's record of 892. 
 

On a sad note a massacre occurred in Munich, Germany, during the Summer Olympics in 1972, when a group called the Black September  took hostage, members of the Israeli team.  The terrorists, who were tied to the Fatah organization, killed eleven Israeli athletes and coaches along with a German policeman.  A Star of David in blood depicts the massacre.
